Born in El Salvador in 1972, Simon began his love relationship with the ocean and art since he was a kid. After living his first 8 years in Panama his family returned to war torn El Salvador in 1980 (don't ask why!), he rode his first wave a few years later.
He says he has "always drawn": waves, robots, superheroes, Kiss, maya influenced designs, original comics and everything he saw and invented till eventually taking two years of Graphic Design in San Salvador's Matias University, dropped out and worked in the field for two more years.
After deciding he just couldn't work in an enclosed, no window, air conditioned, routine-dozed, spirit-eroding enviroment he took a six month break in Cancun, Mexico (*recommended) and wound up living in Xalapa, Veracruz for six years where he majored in Fine Arts in the Veracruz University in 2000.
During that time he traveled throughout Mexico where it's art, people, history, rich cultural mix and it's prehispanic legacy deeply influenced him.Since he's been back, reunited with the Pacific Ocean and El Salvador's fabled right points, Simon has been confronting nationalidentity, it's faded past and urban life and subcultures while actively participating in his adopted community of El Tunco where with contemporary art strategies and means such as installations, interventions, some happenings and community art events designed by him, such as the "Tunco Awards", he is succesfully balancing his love for art and surfing with his job as an art and design teacher in the Matias Delgado and the Monica Herrera Universities.He recieved his Master's Degree from the Universidad Complutenese in Madrid, Spain in 2006. He has exhibited individually in Spain, The United States, Canada, Mexico and El Salvador.
Simon has also participated in important collective exhibits, art fairs and biennials in Spain, The United States, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and at the IX Havanna Biennial in La Habana, Cuba. He surfs every day there's waves and currently lives in San Salvador with his girlfriend Victoria and his dog Bosco.

Simon Vega......caminado en agua por la Vida
La Identidad Cultural y el rescate de la Memoria Historica son dos de los temas centrales en la obra de Simon Vega. Nacido en San Salvador en 1972, estudio en Xalapa, Mexico en donde se graduo en Bellas Artes en el 2000; obtuvo su Maestria en Arte Contemporaneo en la Universidad Complutense en Madrid, Espana en el 2006 gracias a una Beca del Gobierno Espanol. Ha viajado extensamente por estos y otros paises de Lationamerica y Europa.En su serie "Ciudades Perdidas", Vega explora y comenta las jerarquias y las polaridades y disparidades socioeconomicas de las ciudades tercermundistas contemporaneas, mientras que en la serie "Transurbana" realiza una serie de murales, muebles e intervenciones partiendo de las decoraciones del transporte publico urbano, en las cuales las subculturas responden a la homogenizacion cultural y la globalizacion.En sus ultimos trabajos Vega explora el arte comunitario atraves de happenings, performances y eventos en la comunidad playera de El Tunco, en donde el artista ha vivido y surfeado la mayor parte de su vida.
